Blooming brilliant

This year the monsoon season comes with an alarming prospect of another series of big floods. But a lot of us seem to forget that this is also the period of the year when Mother Nature puts on floral extravaganzas in many forests across the country.

And as always, the wild flower season, which will continue throughout the wet months, starts with the blooming of Bua Sawan (aka Siam Tulip, Cercuma alismatifolia) at Pa Hin Ngam and Sai Thong national parks in Chaiyaphum province.

At Pa Hin Ngam, you can forget about biking. It is not allowed, especially during this period when the place is crowded with tourists. I phoned Sai Thong, where the nature study trails are much wider, to see if it's okay to ride my bike there. And the answer was yes.
