Boonyanuch Wannaying, director of the Tourism Authority of Thailand's local office, said the event is to worship eight fragments of the Lord Buddha's chest bone enshrined in the stupa. According to legend, the Lord Buddha spent a night where Wat Phra That Phanom is located. Phra That Phanom is considered a symbolic sacred site for those born in the Year of Monkey and also those born on a Sunday.
