NEW HOTEL

The Kantary Group has added another property to its range of hotels and serviced apartments - the Kantary Hotel, Ayutthaya.

Only a few minutes drive from Ayutthaya Historical Park, the new hotel allows visitors more time to explore the province's ancient ruins and temples without having to rush back to Bangkok at the end of the day.

Since guest rooms are designed for long-term stays, they are relatively large. Even the studio rooms are equipped with a pantry and all standard utensils, chinaware, refrigerator, cabinet, microwave oven and a toaster.

From now until Oct 31, the hotel is offering a 25% discount on all rooms. For more information and even more special deals, visit http://www.kantarygroup.com/kantaryhotel-ayutthaya/index.html or call 03-533-7177 and 03-522-9955.

Then follows a spa service featuring a 30-minute detoxification in a Thai herbal steam, a body scrub and a 60-minute massage. The package costs 5,500++ baht per person and is available until August 2009.

TRADITIONAL MUSIC

Pong lang, the traditional folk music of Northeast Thailand, will be featured at the Siam Society in a concert by the Mu Pong-Lang Band on July 22. The band was formed in 2001 by Ajarn Sanong Klangphasri of Mahidol University's College of Music.

It features a vertical xylophone consisting of 12 to 15 wooden bars of varying sizes, a khen (mouth reed organ), drums and other percussion instruments. Pong lang music is mainly derived from observations of the sounds of nature. The concert begins at 7pm at the Siam Society, Sukhumvit Road Soi 21. There is no admission charge.
