New entry-level four-door comes to Thailand as an import initially.
Mercedes-Benz Thailand has launched the much-anticipated A-Class Sedan that is expected to be its bread-winning model in the long term.
Available initially as a completely built-up import, the model chosen for the Thai luxury car market is the A200 trimmed with sporty AMG Dynamic spec.
The A200 is armed with a 1.3-litre petrol-turbo engine producing 163hp of power and 250Nm of torque.
Transmission is via seven-speed dual-clutch automatic driving just the front wheels, despite Mercedes already having a newer eight-speeder developed for its compact car family.
Priced at 2.49 million baht, the A200 comes with 10 airbags, plus parking and brake assist to its safety credit.
Mercedes’ entry-level sedan is without a rival in Thailand as Audi has yet to consider sales of the four-door A3. BMW, meanwhile, only produces the 1 Series Sedan for China.
The cheapest C-Class on sale in Thailand is the locally assembled C220d priced at 2.379 million baht. This means that buyers of the imported A200 need to be a true fan of premium small sedans.
