Line TV aims to top online video platform this year

Line TV, Line Thailand's online video platform provider, expects to be the country's No.1 online video platform this year, moving up from the top three.

Line TV was recently voted Thailand's top TV re-run platform by a Nielsen survey thanks to its strong partnership with leading TV channels.

To pursue its goal this year, Line TV is joining hands with top-rated TV channels and creating more original content across series, said Kawin Tangudtaisak, content business director of Line Thailand.

Line TV offers online TV programming with exclusive re-runs, original content produced for Line TV, and new music experiences, as well as high-quality video services, all free to users.

Mr Kawin said Line TV launched in 2015 and has become the country's leading online video platform by securing some 20 million users within three years.

Users spend an average of 176 minutes per day on Line TV, or 66% of broadcast TV, according to a Nielsen report.

Line TV has expanded to 161 content partners, up 90% from 2016 including TV channels, producers, music labels, newspapers and magazines.

Line TV revenues are created by pre-advertising and sponsorship package channels.

Mr Kawin said advertising spent on Line TV has grown over 100% year-on-year thanks to its strong partnership with leading TV channels.

He said the online video platform was driven by consumers' preference to watch mobile in Thailand. Some 90% of the country's mobile users watch video online, reported a TNS 2017 Connected Life study.

Some 80% of Line TV users view its video online platform via smartphones.

Mr Kawin said Line TV is extending its TV re-runs by partnering with top-rated TV channels including Channel 3, Workpoint, and Channel 8. One31, and GMM 25 provide full re-runs exclusively on Line TV.

Line TV also works with partners to create original content including TV Thunder, JSL Global Media, Bear Cave, Normadik, GMMTV and Kantana Group. Line TV's popular series include Together With Me, The Next Chapter, GGEZ, It's Complicated, Hipster or Loser, and The Deadline.

"We want to create more original content, up to 100% more from 2017, especially series and variety programmes," he said.
