Minister: Exports can still grow 8% this year

The Commerce Ministry is sticking to its export growth target of 8% this year as a trade dispute between the US and China should have a limited impact on shipments, the commerce minister said on Monday.

"I think we can still keep our export momentum," Sontirat Sontijirawong told a briefing.

The country may have a chance to export between $300 million and $1.1 billion more to the US to replace Chinese goods, he said.

It could further export more goods, worth more than $300 million, to China, to replace US products, Sontirat said.

The ministry said there was only $19 million worth of Thai products in China's supply chain that could be affected by the trade spat.
