Central Pattana (CPN), part of Central Group, and mobile leader Advanced Info Service (AIS) will partner to host the New Year's countdown and celebration at CentralWorld in Bangkok.

Nattakit Tangpoonsinthana, executive vice-president for marketing at CPN, said global news agencies such as CNN have chosen Bangkok as one of the world's top 10 destinations for New Year's countdowns.

Mr Nattakit called CentralWorld the "Times Square" of Thailand.

"With that in mind, we are focusing on providing the best experience, joining hands with AIS and other partners, to fully create the grand and amazing Bangkok countdown to 2019 that helps spur the local economy and tourism," he said.

The countdown will employ the "Eclipse of Time" concept, whereby the moment of year-end celebrations and the time of the New Year's countdown event are brought together.

There will be a DJ stage close to the audience, offering 360-degree entertainment with artists like Da Endorphine, J Jetrin and Jao-Nai, and Joey Boy.

The event will be simulcast on "the world's largest digital interactive screen" in front of CentralWorld.

"AIS is delighted to help create happiness at the AIS Bangkok Countdown 2019@CentralWorld," said Siwalee Buranasongkram, head of AIS's brand management. "And to make this event even more fun, AIS will bring special gifts from AIS presenters, led by James Jirayu, Taew Natapohn, Peck Palitchoke, Bella Ranee, Toey Jarinpoh and Put Puttichai."

Ms Siwalee said those at home can watch live broadcasts from the entertainment venue on the AIS Play app and AIS Playbox from 6.30pm.

The event is co-hosted by CPN, AIS, the Tourism Authority of Thailand, the Royal Thai Police, Toyota Motor Thailand, Chang International, Haad Thip Plc, Plan B Media Plc, GMM Grammy Plc, the Ratchaprasong Square Trade Association, Index Creative Village Plc and Channel 3.

Live broadcasts will also be available on Channel 3SD from 10.30pm and on Channel 3HD from 11.30pm to 12.30am.

Mr Nattakit said CPN set aside 400 million baht for the countdown, promotions and decorations at all 32 CPN shopping centres nationwide, aiming to increase customer traffic by 20% during the year-end period.

"CPN intends to bring tourism forward in world-class tourist destinations such as Phuket," he said. "Central Phuket International Countdown 2019 will be a countdown as world-class as that at CentralWorld, with highlights including international EDM DJs and a host of popular Thai artists who will fully entertain the audience."
