True Corporation and China Mobile announced a collaboration on Monday on 5G development and network consolidation in Thailand.

True and China Mobile have been working together since September 2014 and plan to share use cases and best practices related to 5G.

"To support True Group's vision to become the leader in 5G technology in Thailand, we need support from China Mobile in terms of 5G business development and network preparation," said Vichaow Rakphongphairoj, vice-chairman of the executive committee of True Corporation.

"As both parties are rushing to deploy 5G in China and Thailand, True can learn substantially from China Mobile's experience in terms of 5G network and technology, use cases for consumers and industry, best practices as well as training and exchange programmes for employees and partners. Other benefits include key competencies from customer and business partner engagement."

The pact allows China Mobile to expand its presence in the region and international markets.

Future collaborations will be on global sourcing of handsets and network equipment procurement, as well as expanding markets for digital content, he said.

"True Group has been a good business partner in Thailand, as evidenced by leadership in the broadband and cable TV industry as well as its position in the 3G and 4G mobile businesses," said Li Zhengmao, executive vice-president of China Mobile.

"We believe this strategic partnership benefits both parties through integrating quality resources, maximising potential synergies, and mutual branding enhancement of our 5G leadership."

China Mobile and True Group have worked closely together on product and network development, device procurement and human resources.
