Carnegie Mellon eyes local school

Carnegie Mellon University is partnering with King Mongkut's Institute of Technology Ladkrabang (KMITL) to open a joint institute to develop personnel in computer engineering.

The CMKL University will offer master's and doctorate degrees in computer engineering and do research to support Thailand's industrial and technological development. CMKL is a degree programme for students at KMITL, but graduates will receive a degree from Carnegie Mellon upon completion.

From October to December, CMKL University is open to applications for its master's and doctorate degree programmes in electrical and computer engineering, which focuses on promoting learning and supporting research in computer engineering.

The new school is also launching a programme called the Entertainment Innovation Center focused on the use of technology to develop the entertainment industry, offering an interdisciplinary education.

Carnegie Mellon University, a global leader in industrial robot manufacturing and computer engineering, is located in Pittsburgh in the US.

Supan Tungjitkusolmun, president of CMKL University, said Carnegie Mellon has done extensive research on self-driving cars and artificial intelligence.
