There can be no doubt that we humans are reaping the rewards of our exploitation of Mother Earth and are now experiencing the fruits of our labours in the form of pollution and deplorable living conditions throughout much of the modern world.

As many worry, the question is not how to live with it but how to stop it.

“If we do absolutely nothing, it is likely that human civilisation will come to an end,” Vitanath Sincharoenkul, Director of Sri Trang Gloves (Thailand) Public Company Limited (STGT), noted during an interview with Bangkok Post.

Recently certified by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC), an international non-profit organisation, for both Forest Management and Chain-of-Custody, STGT has become the first in the world capable of handling the entire rubber gloves’ manufacturing process, from producing raw materials to packing the products for delivery, in an environment-friendly manner.

Vitanath, the avid young leader of STGT, stressed the importance of the business and global ecosystems and revealed why he considers just running the company simply not enough.

“Rubber gloves are associated with almost every aspect of human life since the time we’re born. A baby in the delivery room is surely in the hands of doctors and nurses wearing rubber gloves. What’s more, cooks, cleaners, staff in science labs, manufacturing of many products and even lifestyle application like tattoo have to wear gloves. With the ‘Touch Of Life’ concept, our company wants to satisfy the needs of all markets in all aspects. Aside from human rights and animal rights, the environment today is an important and controversial issue. Most importantly, it is inevitably something that can’t be overlooked.”

“STGT is certified by FSC because we are transparent about our production chain with the biomass production and can prove that it is environmentally friendly. We pay close attention to every step of the production process, from planting rubber trees to promoting sustainability among farmers and ensuring no forbidden chemical in production processes to manufacture our rubber gloves. At the same time, we consider the well-being of all employees in our factory in accordance with the Business Social Compliance Initiative (BSCI). Our business was always fully integrated and international certification independently testifies to our good intentions.”

“In today’s world, because of their concern for the environment, people are increasingly concerned with the origins of products and take into account the impact of raw materials consumption. Large companies are especially alarmed by this issue and are seriously responding. This, in turn, puts other businesses in the chain under pressure to cooperate as well. Indeed, it is so crucial that it affects stock prices and the very existence of businesses.”

“Besides,” Vitanath added, “rubber is a significant export of Thailand and a key driver of the country's economy. It is also a natural raw material whose plants can be regrown sustainably. Moreover, as a natural product, it can be naturally biodegradable and combustion of natural rubber glove is not as dangerous as that of chemical products.

Participation in the canonical movement of environmentalism for pedestrians can be very simple but does not usually make a massive impact. Big companies and large-scale manufacturers, on the other hand, when initiating change or embarking on environmental reform can plausibly render concrete outcomes. What Sri Trang Gloves is doing is a good signpost towards a green future, even in a country like ours. Now it’s time for large organisations to think about it. Not just for their own sakes but for the sake of humanity.
