India Prime Minister Narendra Modi and several Thai dignitaries attended the 50th anniversary ceremony of India-based conglomerate Aditya Birla Group's operations in Thailand.

The company, valued at US$48.3 billion (1.46 trillion baht), hosted the event at Centara Grand Convention Center in Bangkok and has a combined $1.1 billion in diversified business in Thailand.

Aditya Birla Group's operations in Thailand include nine plants, spanning diverse sectors such as textiles, carbon black and chemicals.

"We are here in Thailand, with whom India has a strong cultural linkage," said Mr Modi at the event.

"And we are marking 50 years of a leading Indian industrial business in Thailand. This reaffirms my belief that commerce and culture have inherent powers to unite. It is truly a special occasion. I congratulate the team of Aditya Birla Group."

Kumar Mangalam Birla, chairman of Aditya Birla Group, said it was a matter of great pride to celebrate their 50th anniversary in Thailand, in the presence of the Indian prime minister.

"We are very grateful to the Kingdom for their unflinching support over the years," he said.

"The last 50 years have continually reinforced the richness of Thai talent and the support of the government for business, as well as our commitment to Thailand as seen by the $1.9 billion investment we have made over the years. Our success in Thailand has been predicated on the commitment and dedication of our close to 4,000 employees. As a group, we continue to remain deeply invested in Thailand's growth and development."
