Osaka airport introduces canine comfort room

OSAKA: A regional airport serving popular tourist spots in western Japan, including Osaka, Kyoto and Kobe, is set to become the first airport in Japan with toilet area for exclusive use by dogs later this week.

Osaka airport decided to introduce the facility after receiving requests for it, not only from passengers travelling with their pet dogs but also from airline officials reporting occasional toileting accidents involving dogs onboard their aircraft, according to its operator, Kansai Airports.

The airport straddling Osaka and Hyogo prefectures will introduce the outdoor canine bathroom from Friday for daily use from 5.30am to 10pm.

"We hope (the introduction) will lead to stress reduction by allowing dogs, along with their owners, to go to the toilet before boarding," said Kansai Airports, a member of the Kansai Airports Group, which also runs Kansai airport and Kobe Airport, in a statement on.
