The Industrial Estate Authority of Thailand (IEAT) has teamed up with Asia Clean Industrial Park Co (ACIP) to develop a new industrial estate in Chon Buri to serve novel investment projects in the Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC).
It is named Asia Clean Chon Buri Industrial Estate, located on a plot of 1,300 rai in Ban Bung district with a development cost of 3 billion baht. The site is scheduled to operate the first phase in 2021.
IEAT governor Somchint Pilouk said the partners plan to develop the industrial estate in two phases. The first on 306 rai will develop infrastructure such as roads, water reservoirs, water management and retreatment, and power utilities.
The first phase is slated to begin construction in 2020.
The second phase is projected to begin development on 994 rai in 2022 to serve new projects of local and foreign investors.
"This project has an eco-industrial concept," said Ms Somchint. "The industrial estate will serve light industrial operations, but emphasise the 12 targeted industries under the S-curve policy."
She said targeted industries consist of smart electronics, electric parts, medical equipment, electric vehicles, biochemicals, digital and agricultural products.
IEAT expects the Asia Clean Chon Buri Industrial Estate to attract new investment value of 40 billion baht and create more than 8,000 new jobs.
"It will be the 61st industrial estate in Thailand and we have high hopes it will develop the local economy, create new employment and distribute income in Chon Buri," she said.
"The government is promoting the EEC to focus on development of targeted industries. The corridor covers Chachoengsao, Chon Buri and Rayong provinces, aiming to become a hub for trade and innovation."
ACIP has a registered capital of 1.8 billion baht and Songmetta Corporation owns a 99% stake.
ACIP is an affiliate company of Shaiyo Triple A Group, the international conglomerate headquartered in Thailand, with core businesses in agriculture, clean and renewable energy, logistics services, industrial land development, engineering procurement and construction services, and international trading.
Shaiyo Triple A Group is also the largest producer and exporter of high-quality wood chips.
In addition, the group operates the largest number of biomass and municipal solid waste power plants in Southeast Asia, and runs fully integrated agricultural business.
