Minister talks up highway projects in west Bangkok

Transport Minister Saksayam Chidchob on Thursday emphasised the need for two road construction projects in western Bangkok, claiming road construction would not exacerbate traffic congestion in the surrounding areas.

These projects are the construction of the elevated Bang Khunthian-Ekkachai section of Highway No.35 from Thon Buri to Pak Tho (Rama II) and the Rama III-Dao Khanong-Western Ring Road, he said.

The minister said he was confident the projects would address traffic congestion in this western part of the capital when they are completed.

His comments were delivered after a progress evaluation at the sites.

The Bang Khunthian-Ekkachai elevated road construction project consists of three sections, the last of which is expected to end in July, said Mr Saksayam.

Upon opening, travelling from Bangkok to the South via the road will become much more convenient, he said.

The Rama III-Dao Khanong-Western Ring Road work, consisting of five construction contracts, began on Jan 16.

More campaigns will be carried out urging drivers to check the traffic situation on roads near the construction sites before planning their trips, said the minister.

Updates and news regarding these projects and their possible effects on traffic are available on the Exat Portal and Highway Traffic mobile applications, said Mr Saksayam.
