Revealing the secrets of “Sri Trang Gloves” – Thailand’s largest rubber glove producer and one of the world’s leader

The demand for rubber gloves in several industries, particularly in the health industry, has been growing constantly in recent past, due to the increased use of health and hygienic products among consumers in relation to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Therefore, it has been necessary to choose high quality and safe hygienic products. And one of the tools needed in this important endeavour is “rubber gloves”.

At present, there are many producers and distributors of rubber gloves in Thailand, but the focus has to be on a large producer which ranks amongst the top in the world – Sri Trang Gloves (Thailand) Public Company Limited (STGT).

The mainstay products of STGT are Natural Rubber Gloves and Nitrile Gloves whose main differences are the raw materials as well as the utilisation characteristics.

  1. Natural Rubber Glove manufacturing and distribution business: Natural Rubber Gloves are produced from concentrated latex. The characteristics of these gloves are high flexibility, ease of use, biodegradability and offering good protection in many types of applications. They are divided into two subcategories, namely, Natural Rubber Powdered Gloves which are easy to use and can absorb perspiration; and, Natural Rubber Powder-Free Gloves which require newer production technology, more difficult to produce than Natural Rubber Powdered Gloves but are comfortable to wear as there is no powder to soil the hands.
  2. Nitrile Rubber Glove manufacturing and distribution business: Nitrile Gloves are produced from acrylonitrile butadiene rubber. They are more durable and more puncture-resistant than Natural Rubber Gloves, can withstand chemicals but are less flexible than Natural Rubber Gloves.

Every brand of rubber gloves produced by Sri Trang Gloves has been certified ASTM, EN455, ISO11193, ISO22000, Halal, European Food Standard, etc. They can be used in medical field, food, and in jobs that require hand protection, good health and hygiene.

The customer base of STGT spreads out to over 140 countries around the world, such as USA, Japan, European countries, etc. The Company has not stopped seeking out new markets especially where the rubber markets have high growth potentials, such as in Asia Pacific, Africa, and South America.

Ms. Jarinya Jirojkul, Chief Executive Officer of Sri Trang Gloves (Thailand) Plc. (STGT), spoke of the growth factor of the medical industry during the COVID-19 pandemic that the spread of the coronavirus has affected the behaviour of consumers who have become more aware of their health and safety, and have bought more health insurance, alcohol cleaning gel, face masks, as well as rubber gloves to maintain safety of people all over the world. This has reflected in the high growth of the rubber glove markets.

“COVID-19 has greatly affected the demand for health and hygiene products. STGT, meanwhile, has been paying close attention to the entire production process from the sourcing of raw materials to the application of modern technology, automation system, Internet of Things (IoT) system and the robotic production control system, to be applied to increase the potentials and speed of production standards.

“At present, STGT is considered Thailand’s largest rubber glove producer and is amongst the top in the world with the total installed production capacity of 27,153 million pieces per year (As of December 31, 2019) at three factories, in Hat Yai, Songkhla Province, and in Surat Thani and Trang provinces. In addition STGT has continuous plans to increase production capacity to maintain the leadership in Thailand. At present, STGT has already completed the increase in installed production capacity at the plants in Hat Yai and Trang – a part of STGT’s plan to boost production capacity to 32,619 million pieces per year (As of March 31, 2020),” Ms. Jarinya said.
