Advanced Info Service (AIS) targets adding more than 300,000 new subscribers to its fixed broadband service this year despite the impact of the pandemic.

Last year AIS Fibre subscribers tallied 1 million, up from 700,000 in 2018.

The growth of new customers is expected to be flat or slightly more than last year, thanks to demand for broadband service to accommodate the digital lifestyle, especially the adoption of work-from-home measures during the crisis.

Saran Phaloprakarn, head of AIS fixed broadband business, said AIS Fibre had 1.1 million household subscribers as of March this year.

Of total subscribers, 50% are in Bangkok and the rest in the provinces.

"Over the past three months, Thais have rapidly adapted to a new lifestyle. Home broadband internet has become a necessary utility, just like electricity and water," said Mr Saran.

"This service is needed whether working from home, learning from home, or watching unlimited entertainment content."

AIS Fibre holds an 11% market share of fixed broadband service in country.

The company announced yesterday an exclusive partnership with Apple TV and Samsung Smart TV.

He said the partnership with the duo puts AIS in a "game changer" position.

Customers can watch content from the AIS Play app on Apple TV 4K, as well as full premium content from Apple TV, said Mr Saran.

AIS Fibre is offering a promotion to its customers with packages worth at least 699 baht per month -- an Apple TV 4K at a 30% discount.

For the Samsung deal, AIS Fibre allows customers to watch content of AIS Play on Samsung Smart TVs.

Mr Saran said customers can download the AIS Play app via the Samsung App Store on their TV screen, with the upgrade available for smart TVs made in 2017 and newer editions.

He said the company offers an AIS Fibre WiFi6 upgrade kit to enhance the home network, boosting internet speed and decreasing interference with the signal.

AIS Fibre's customers can also switch the internet speed by themselves with its speed toggle, as well as guarantee their whole home has WiFi coverage from the day of installation, said Mr Saran.
