Using artificial intelligence to elevating Thai medical standards in relation to lesion diagnosis

MOU signing between Fujifilm (Thailand) Ltd. and Department of Radiology, Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University, to collaborate in medical AI technology for diagnostic radiography.

A trilateral MOU among Fujifilm (Thailand) Ltd., Department of Radiology, Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University, and Lunit Inc., along with J.F. Advance Med Co., Ltd. has been signed to collaborate in medical AI technology for diagnostic radiography of medical equipment. The collaboration will support medical teams’ lesion diagnosis of incoming patients and reduce the healthcare operational workflow. It will also expand medical knowledge and create cutting-edge research that will maximise diagnosis and treatment. The collaboration will also cover other medical aspects that will help elevate Thai medical standards and international credibility.

Professor Dr. Prasit Watanapa, Dean of Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital at Mahidol University, stated that: “Siriraj hospital’s policy and direction are to develop medical technology in order to maximise effectiveness of patient care and treatment. We pay a lot of attention to AI technology to support doctors and healthcare personnel by making medical workflow more convenient in terms of screening and diagnosing patients. This will lead to enhancing Siriraj Hospital and making it a leader in medical AI technology. The state-of-the-art medical technology centre will enable interpretation of diagnostic imaging, especially chest X-ray images, and preparation of medical reports for more convenient and effective diagnoses.”

Mr. Tsutomu Watanabe, Managing Director of Fujifilm (Thailand) Ltd., mentioned that, “This MOU marks the beginning of a collaboration in AI diagnostics for radiography with Siriraj hospital. The medical AI technology connects with a Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS) and imaging database at Siriraj Hospital, thereby improving workflow. Fujifilm AI Solution ‘REiLI’ will assist doctors and technicians. With its ‘NEVER STOP innovating for a healthier world’ philosophy Fujifilm will never cease developing more powerful medical and healthcare innovations. As a leader in medical equipment and healthcare, Fujifilm never loses sight of its global healthcare mission. We collaborate with alliances that include Lunit Inc. specialising in AI software solutions in Korea and J.F. Advance Med Co., Ltd., Fujifilm’s medical equipment partner for interdisciplinary software services providing both AI and PACS to Siriraj hospital.”

“Amid the COVID-19 pandemic, Fujifilm prepared portable digital X-ray devices (FDR Nano) in collaboration with AI-CAD. These analyse and diagnose chest X-ray images for COVID-19, pneumonia, and any lung-related diseases. Ailment-prone lesions or positions are detected and displayed onscreen immediately. The system also delivers relevant information and images to physicians to enable them to diagnose more effectively and conveniently. This, in turn, enhances and increases therapy effectiveness and efficiency.”

“Moreover, Fujifilm plans to develop AI technology in relation to digital mammography. This could not only help detect lesions but also reduce the need for surgery and save time. Fujifilm is already developing further AI technology in relation to radiology and medical equipment such as endoscopy and ultrasound devices.”

“Fujifilm’s medical product lines will continue to cover more aspects of patient care and treatment in fulfilment of our ‘Total Healthcare Imaging Solution’ mission.
