THAI sells off service items

Thai Airways International (THAI) has offloaded some unused items that were quickly snapped up as the struggling airline works to restore its battered business.

THAI on Wednesday kicked off the TG Warehouse Sale project to sell wholesale new in-flight service items after suspending scheduled flights due to the Covid-19 pandemic for over six months.

Employees, such as pilots and cabin crew, volunteered to take the products' pictures which were then posted on the TG Warehouse Sale Facebook page. Over 400 products in the airline's cargo warehouse at Suvarnabhumi airport were sold out within minutes of having been advertised on the webpage.

The products, screened with the airline's logo, included glasses, cups, napkins, plates and toothpicks. Prices ranged from 50 satang to 69 baht apiece.

THAI's catering department earlier sold coffee, mineral water, juice and seasonings used for in-flight meals at a discount.

The airline has also turned to selling deep-fried dough, or patong-go, from its bakery outlets to generate revenue. The patong-go were a hit with customers and the airline plans to franchise the business.
