PTT Group CG Day 2020: step to the future alongside CG led by IRPC

The Covid-19 pandemic is impeding movement and undermining the courage of many corporations to go forward amid the new normal world.

In affirming its vision and commitment, PTT Group took a sharp turn in transforming the crisis into opportunities by hosting “The 12th PTT Group CG Day 20202” led by IRPC under the theme “Step to the Future: New Normal with CG” on 23 December 2020, the change-of-plan virtual conference broadcast live from PTT Building, Bangkok.

“PTT Group CG Day 2020 is launched to uphold our commitment to good business conduct and demonstrate our competency to adjust our direction according to external disruptions. In order to achieve sustainability, PTT Group sustains its corporate governance by operating in accordance with ethics, transparency, responsibility, equitable treatment, accountability, and zero tolerance of corruption culture,” said Auttapol Rerkpiboon, PTT President and Chief Executive Officer.

The PTT executive further stated that, “PTT Group focuses on ESG principles where ESG stands for Environmental, Social and Governance, along with economics. It does so by encompassing these aspects to create balanced relations with stakeholders, including the country, government sectors, employees, shareholders, business partners, communities, and the environment. All PTT Flagship Companies are processing works within one directive framework and certain measures under the CG committees designated for each company to maintain proficiency and shared goals.”

In 2020, PTT Group CG Day 2020 is led by IRPC Public Company Limited (IRPC), aiming to build awareness and promote PTT Group employees at all levels to engage CG in their work conduct as well as affirming confidence and trust among stakeholders.

“IRPC aims to create transparency culture and impress staff with zero-tolerance culture by refusing to be incentivized by business partners or get involved with any conduct leading to conflict of interests. ‘Step to the Future: New Normal with CG’ is participated in by CEOs from all seven PTT Group; PTT, PTTEP, PTTGC, TOP, IRPC, GPSC and OR, who contribute their views on applying new technologies and innovations to existing ethical actions,” said Chawalit Tippawanich, IRPC President and Chief Executive Officer.

“IRPC is responsible for operating in compliance with the government sector as part of its Good Corporate Citizenship. Besides following state legislation, regulations, and control, IRPC serves the country as a role model prioritising putting policy into action. This includes our recent establishment of a one stop laboratory for testing Covid-19 mask protection, engaging Thai business in providing raw materials under the CG principle. IRPC is the sole private organisation in Thailand receiving recognition for its human rights performance for two consecutive years in 2019 and 2020,” added Mr. Tippawanich.

While CG principle has been key to business since the establishment of PTT Group, the new normal era has seen the PTT Group encounter crisis while maintaining standards and building confidence among stakeholders.

“One of our most significant aspects of success is employees. PTTEP helps employees get through crisis and digital transition by encouraging them to work from home. The executive board supports our staff by engaging AI to investigate fraud in the processes and assists them with robotics automation to help reduce mistakes. Since the lockdown, we have held 11 Townhall meetings which increase trust through clear response to the issues,” said Phongsthorn Thavisin, PTTEP Chief Executive Officer.

In response to shareholders’ expectations during social distancing, PTTGC hosted the Analysts Meeting on a digital platform to communicate and reaffirm investors’ quality of earnings. “We continue our investment through M&As (mergers and acquisitions) with other countries through PTTGC overseas offices, ensuring business going forward within the CG framework,” stated Kongkrapan Intarajang, PTTGC Chief Executive Officer.

Dealing with suppliers and business partners is another vital front for ThaiOil on behalf of PTT, as it performs its CG commitment through TOP TEN measures.

“ThaiOil Group Tendering Procedure (TOP TEN) is our guideline when conducting business dealing with over 5-million baht billings,” added Wirat Uanarumit ThaiOil Chief Executive Officer and President. “The process involves the procurement department performing checks and balances while monitoring systems detect wrongdoing during the process. In achieving CG, we require mutual commitment by engaging our suppliers in the CAC programme.”

In terms of customers, PTTOR is responsible as the gateway to reach the consumers through the operation of SMEs that own PTT Stations, Amazon Cafés, and overseas retailers.

“During Covid-19, all PTT touchpoints provide services to three million customers a day. Listening to their problems is the key, so we develop digital platforms to hear them as well as creating transparent processes and protocols in acquiring partnerships through websites of the businesses they are interested in. Street traffic analytic system is also employed to predict possibilities of business success before joining the partnership,” said Jiraporn Khaosawas, PTT Oil and Retail Business Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director.

Last but not least, GPSC addresses the environment. “We treat the environment as equal to other living stakeholders. Starting from operation level, we ensure all staff work safely during the pandemic to proceed with clean and safe manufacturing process. When our products are launched, circulated, and become waste, nature and environment are protected and not harmed by the pandemic,” concluded Worawat Pitayasiri, GPSC President and Chief Executive Officer.

The PTT Group CG Day Virtual Conference amid the new normal is another demonstration of PTT Group’s exemplary commitment to sustaining good corporate governance among partnerships and platforms with Technology for All principles to achieve utmost transparency and sustainability.
