B90m to fix unsafe Rayong port

RAYONG: The Marine Department will invest 90 million baht in an upgrade of Ao Makham Pom port in Klang district to support the local tourism and fishing industries.

Director-general Witthaya Yamuang the department has completed a structural survey and will allocate the funds from the 2022 spending plan to pay for the upgrades.

The port, built in 1991 by the Fisheries Department to serve small fishing boats, is in a sorry state and was ordered closed by the department due to safety concerns.

The port was transferred to the tambon Sunthonphu administration body. The local authority recently asked the Marine Department to survey the port and repair it to meet safety standards.
