Oishi is launching a food truck caravan to provide takeout sushi during the ongoing lockdown and get around restrictions that make it difficult to serve food from its shopping centre branches.

Paisarn Aowsathaporn, executive vice-president for restaurant business at Oishi Group Plc, said Thailand's food business has been suffering during the ongoing pandemic, especially restaurants that have branches in shopping malls.

With outlets in malls closed to curb infections, customers are also losing out on dining opportunities. Hence, Oishi has adjusted its plans to ensure customers can as easily access its goods and services as they could before the crisis.

"In the past, we focused more on the development of take-away sales channels and food delivery services," Mr Paisarn said.

"At the same time, we modified the layout of stores to suit the current market environment by focusing on moving target customers comprehensively and quickly. In a bid to meet customers' needs, we have also expanded our business to make access to food more mobile by rolling out food trucks under the 'Oishi Food Truck' concept."

These mobile restaurants carry Oishi's full takeout and delivery menus.

The food trucks are currently serving customers at PTT petrol stations in Kannayao, Taling Chan, Chonburi, Pathum Thani, Samut Prakan and Ayutthaya.

The first Oishi Food Truck was first launched in December 2020 as a decorated prototype, featuring popular takeaway dishes. However, unlike the fleet of Oishi Food Trucks, this one keeps changing locations.

The prototype will be spotted at PTT station Ban Pho from August 16-22, and PTT station Samruay Service 2 from August 23 to September 25. Both PTT stations are located in Chachoengsao.

Meanwhile, Oishi plans to expand its fleet of food trucks in a bid to boost its ratio of revenue and customer base, Mr Paisarn said.
