The country's leading mobile operator Advanced Info Service (AIS) has joined hands with Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), a global IT service provider for business and the industrial sector, to develop Internet of Things (IoT) solutions using 5G network to power the industrial sector.

The partnership is aimed at ushering in technologies that will help enhance industrial management, reduce cost and ensure uninterrupted production.

Tanapong Ittisakulchai, chief enterprise business officer at AIS, said the collaboration is an important opportunity to create IoT solutions that will support the work process in response to the needs of the modern work environment.

The technology will also boost confidence in the Thai industrial sector, which plays a crucial role in driving the country's economy, he said.

The collaboration brings together the strength of AIS and TCS with the rollout of IoT solutions that will be able to enhance productivity, control cost and ensure continuity of production, he said.

The solutions can answer to the needs of four major work types -- smart manufacturing, energy management, connected workforce and logistics optimisation.

Solutions for smart manufacturing will be ushered in to enhance the work process in factories with the connection of data from IoT-equipped machines to digital platforms.

Solutions for energy management are aimed at optimising energy usage in buildings, offices and factories with environmentally-friendly consideration and cost reduction.

Regarding technology for a connected workforce, staff will be supported with solutions that are able to allow them to work remotely with augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR) technology deployed to supervise work.

Another group concerns logistics optimisation, in which intelligent solutions will be used to deal with warehouse management to respond to various kinds of factory needs.

Vijaya Pandya, country head of TCS, said digital technology has the potential to shape the industrial sector in a better direction, including management efficiency, cost control and productivity.

The collaboration with AIS does not only mean the improvement of the work process in factories, but will also play an important role in building the strength of the country's industrial segment, she said.
