Robinhood, the food delivery company backed by Siam Commercial Bank, will introduce car-hailing services by the end of this year as it moves to become a "superapp".

Srihanath Lamsam, managing director of Purple Ventures Co, on Monday announced the tentative launch of Robinhood Ride service by year's end. The move came after the Land Transport Department authorised the Thai app to operate a ride-hailing service.

He said the company was developing a platform to prepare for the operation and will recruit taxis and private cars registered for public transport next month.

Purple Ventures was set up as a tech startup for Siam Commercial Bank Plc to run the Robinhood platform.

The company started off its business as a food delivery service with an ambition to be an all-around app in the region.
