BIW Products, a manufacturer of curtains and blinds, has launched motion blinds connected to smart home systems to target the upper end of the market, aiming for sales growth of 65% to 200 million baht this year.

Chief executive Sirichai Rittiphanyawong said the growing luxury housing segment led to increased demand for motion blinds that can be integrated with smart home systems.

"As smart homes become increasingly popular worldwide, we recognise the growth potential in this market," he said. "We are the first company in Thailand to launch motion blinds that can be connected to smart home systems."

According to Statista Digital Market Insights, 29% of households worldwide will be smart by 2027, with the number of smart homes totalling 672 million.

In Thailand, revenue in the smart home market was projected to reach US$143 million in 2022 with a cumulative annual growth rate of 16.9% during 2022-27.

In the Thai smart home market, the number of active households is expected to reach 5.12 million users by 2027.

Coulisse, a Dutch manufacturer of smart window coverings, launched Eve MotionBlinds, a series of window covering motors with Apple HomeKit technology, in October 2022. The company began exporting the product to Thailand last month.

Eve MotionBlinds work directly from an iPhone without the need for an additional bridge or account. This can save around 5,000 baht, said Mr Sirichai.

A new product for this year is zip blinds, a type of roller blind that utilises a specially designed side channel system to keep the fabric securely in place, even in windy conditions.

"The zip technology helps prevent light gaps and reduces heat and noise levels in the room," he said.

"This makes them a popular choice for outdoor areas, such as patios or balconies."

Mr Sirichai said the new products are expected to increase the company's sales to 200 million baht, up from 120 million, by the end of the year.

For the sales in 2022, half were from blinds, 40% from curtains and 10% from other products.
