Amway flush with sales

The flood crisis pushed local sales of Amway water-treatment products to No.1 in its global direct sales network last year.

Kittawat Ritteerawee, the managing director of Amway (Thailand) Co, said huge demand for its eSpring water treatment product was also driven by increasing concern among Thais about health.

Moreover, the number of Thai households sharply rose as people moved to stay on their own or set up new families.

Sales of its eSpring water treatment reached 2.3 billion baht last year, about 25% of the product's global sales.

"The shortage of drinking water created demand for our water treatment product to grow by 20% last year, higher than our projection," said Mr Kittawat.

Though the market returned to normal, the company is confident of strong sales momentum for eSpring water treatment this year.

The water treatment market this year is estimated at 3.7 billion baht, with 70% of sales via direct sales networks.

Amway expects eSpring treatment sales of 2.1 billion baht this year, a 57% market share.

More than 500,000 Amway water treatments units have been sold locally.

The penetration rate of water treatment products in Thai households is about 50% compared with other electrical appliances.

"We see that water treatment products have huge potential to grow," said Mr Kittawat.
