South-bound railway routes will reopen on Wednesday night starting with an express train to Yala, State Railway of Thailand governor Prapat Chongsanguan said.
Mr Prapat said the first train to resume service is No. 41 leaving Hua Lamphong station for the southern province at 10.50pm. Other trains will operate as usual afterwards, he added.
The railway agency has suspended the line to the southernmost provinces since Aug 27 after rubber farmers blocked the track in Cha-uat district of Nakhon Si Thammarat in their demand for better rubber prices from the government.
The protesting farmers agreed on Thursday to clear the blockade at least for a week to give the government more time to reconsider their demand on guaranteed prices for unsmoked rubber sheet at 100 baht per kilogramme.
The national rubber policy committee on Thursday rejected the condition and stood by its Aug 14 resolution on measures to help rubber growers through a subsidy of 1,260 baht per rai, although it agreed to extend the cap on the subsidy from 10 to 25 rai per farmer.
