Clip shows police slapping tourist

CHON BURI - A video clip has circulated online showing what appears to be a policeman slapping a female tourist in Pattaya.

The clip was posted on Youtube and has gone viral, drawing condemnation from netizens.

The video's description said the incident happened outside a designer leather bags shop on Pattaya Sai Song Road in tambon Nongprue and was captured on the shop's closed-circuit television (CCTV) camera.

Witnesses said the woman was Russian. Police apparently stopped her and her boyfriend for a traffic offence while riding a motorcycle.

The boyfriend was taken to a police station to pay the fine. An officer tried to seize the motorcycle but the woman resisted and filmed him with her mobile phone, the witnesses said.

The officer then slapped her face, witnesses said.

The officer is believed to be a traffic policeman at Muang Pattaya police station. Calls to the station seeking comment on Tuesday went unanswered.
