Tourism officials meet the new boss

Suwat Sidthilaw, permanent secretary to the Tourism and Sports Ministry, informally met and received policies from Tourism and Sports Minister Kobkarn Wattanavrangkul along with senior officials from the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), the Department of Tourism, and the Tourist Police Division yesterday.

Mr Suwat said the minister wants to draw quality tourists to Thailand and use social networks as the main marketing channel to promote Thai tourism.

Mrs Kobkarn wants to boost tourism revenue in 2015 to meet the target of 2.2 trillion baht, according to Mr Suwat.

The ministry wants to promote Thailand as an educational and medical tourism hub in Asean.

Mr Suwat said tourist sites needed to serve youth demand and attract more movie and music video crews. Main tourism activities will consist of cycling, social media camping, cooking and Thai boxing classes.

"The minister assigned agencies to talk with BEC World to negotiate with boy band One Direction to be a Thai tourism presenter next year," said Mr Suwat.
