SET firm above 1,700 on election news

The Stock Exchange of Thailand closed up 14.73 points to 1,706.95 on Tuesday after the prime minister <a href="https://www.bangkokpost.com/news/politics/1340072/prayut-general-election-in-13-months" target="_blank">confirmed the general election would take place in November 2018</a>.

Total trading value was 81.5 billion baht, with 15.4 billion shares changed hands.

SET50 index jumped 1.13%, or 12.20 points, to 1,092.02 in trade worth 39.9 billion baht.

MAI fell 0.21%, or 1.20 points, to 569.73 in transactions worth 1.9 billion baht.

Foreigners were net buyers of 2.3 billion baht worth of shares, followed by local institutions (1.8 billion baht) and brokers (392.4 million baht). Individual investors sold 4.5 billion baht.

Year-to-date, institutional investors were net buyers of 65 billion baht, followed by foreigners (14.6 billion baht) and brokers (11.2 billion baht). Retail investors were sole net sellers of 90.9 billion baht.
