Thai stocks opened down 2.52% at the start of trade this morning.
The Stock Exchange of Thailand's main index opened at 1,678.36 points, down 43.46 points from Wednesday's close. The trade value was 8.70 billion baht with 1.84 billion shares traded.
The SET50 index opened at 1,102.60 points, down 32.13 points or 2.83%, with a total trade value of 6.55 billion baht.
The MAI index went down 9.21 points or 2.09% to stand at 431.09 points with total transaction value of 163 million baht.
Chaiyaporn Nompitakcharoen, deputy managing director of Bualuang Securities, said the SET followed other Asian market sentiment in the wake of the US stock market plunge. With technology share prices dropping sharply and US bond yields rising, the situation reflected growing inflation and a tendency to higher interest rates, he said.
