Cape and Kantary Hotels plans to open its new property, Cape Fahn, next month on a private island close to Koh Samui.
Poomiphat Navanukroh, group director for travel, said the group has invested about 550 million baht for the property and construction of the hotel, which is off Choeng Mon beach on the northeast corner of Koh Samui.
He said Cape Fahn offers the most luxury in the Cape and Kantary Hotels umbrella, and rooms start at an eye-popping 20,000 baht up to 117,000 baht per night.
Other luxury hotels on the island include Four Seasons, St. Regis, Six Senses and Ritz-Carlton.
Even with the high room rate, Mr Poomiphat believes Cape Fahn will have an average occupancy rate of 80% for this year and 85% for 2019 thanks to growing tourism on the island.
The group expects 90% of guests to be foreign travellers, with a focus on Germany, the UK, Australia, China and South Korea. Domestic travellers will comprise a tiny portion, he said.
Koh Samui is a famous tourism destination in Surat Thani province, where total hotels in the province have mushroomed to 1,138 with 37,190 keys, said the Surat Thani Tourism Office.
The island received more than 2.5 million foreign visitors last year, up from 2.34 million a year earlier.
Facilities include 55 weekly domestic flights and four weekly international flights at Surat Thani airport.
Mr Poomiphat said tourists travelling to Koh Samui spend an average of 7,700 to 8,200 baht per head per day. The island is becoming more popular with high-spending tourists, he said.
Cape and Kantary Hotels plan to open several hotels in the next few years under the Cape brand in Pattaya, and the Kantary brand in Koh Samui and the Northeast region, said Mr Poomiphat.
The group operates 22 hotels with a total of 3,741 rooms under different brands, namely the Cape Hotel Collection, Kantary Collection, Kameo Collection and Somewhere.
