Free trips between 2 new BTS stations

City Hall will offer one month's worth of free trips between the two new skytrain stations in Thon Buri which open today.

Wutthakat and Bang Wa stations have been built on a 2.2-kilometre extended section of the BTS Silom Line, that links Thon Buri in western Bangkok to the business areas of Sathon and Silom, as well as Siam Square.

To celebrate His Majesty the King's 86th birthday today, City Hall will allow passengers to travel free of charge between the two stations until Jan 5 next year, after which time passengers are required to pay 10 baht.

There are currently six skytrain stations in Thon Buri. Besides the two new stations, the area has Krung Thonburi, Wong Wian Yai, Pho Nimit and Talat Phlu stations.

Authorities are also planning to construct six more stations to link Bang Wa and Taling Chan for a cost of 11 billion baht, Bangkok governor MR Sukhumbhand Paribatra said on Wednesday.

These stations are expected to be completed in the next six years.
