SET-listed retailers reported healthy results in the first nine months this year.

Robinson Plc's revenue for the period increased by 4.2% to 7.5 billion baht, with 611 million baht net profit, up 19.8% from the same period last year.

The company attributes the growing income from new store expansion, store renovation, higher rental income from stores and a high occupancy rate of 99%.

It operates 44 Robinson stores nationwide and two stores in Vietnam.

Platinum Group Plc, a wholesale fashion operator, reported revenue for the first nine months of 1.51 billion baht and net profit of 569 million baht, 10% and 9% rises, respectively, from the same period last year.

Siam Makro Plc, the operator of Makro cash and carry stores, reported consolidated revenue of 137.8 billion baht for the nine-month period with 4.3 billion baht in profit, rising 7.8% and 13.3, respectively, year-on-year.

Makro's consolidated revenue in the third quarter increased by 8.7% to 45.87 billion baht. The company's revenue growth stemmed partly from opening of new branches and gains in same-store sales.

Makro opened four new stores under various formats in the third quarter this year, bringing its total stores to 120 branches with sales space of 715,372 square metres.

According to Asia Plus Securities, SET-listed retailers have opened more stores across the country and it is likely the new expansion could saturate the market.

As a result, some retailers such as HomePro, Makro and BJC opted to expand their branches overseas, particularly in Southeast Asia, to cash in on growing economies in many countries.

Siam Makro plans to open its first cash and carry store in Phnom Penh next month, with 10,000 sq m of space.

The company also plans to open 4-5 new branches of Makro Food Service stores in China next year.

Chanchai Phansopha, president of Platinum, said the opening of the skyline walk from Gaysorn mall has helped its business.

Visitor growth to Platinum venues has grown by 12% in the first nine months this year compared to an average 3% annual gain in the 12 years since establishment.

The company plans to spend about 50 million baht to add 2,000 sq m of rental space at Platinum Fashion Mall, which is set aside for a logistics provider next year.

Platinum expects revenue to reach 2 billion baht by the end of this year.
