Prayut asks Jetro to support rubber industries, EEC

Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha has asked the Japan External Trade Organisation (Jetro) to support rubber processing industries and investment in the much-touted Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC).

The premier met with Hiroyuki Ishige, chairman and chief executive of Jetro, on Friday.

Maj Gen Veerachon Sukonthapatipark, deputy government spokesman, said Gen Prayut thanked the Japanese organisation for coordinating on the recent successful visit of a delegation of with 570 Japanese businessmen led by Japanese Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry Hiroshige Seko.  

Mr Hiroyuki said the Japanese visited the EEC so they had a clear understanding of investment in the area. He said Japanese businessmen had confidence in Thailand’s potential and pledged to continue investment in the kingdom, the spokesman said.

Maj Gen Veerachon said the prime minister had asked Mr Hiroyuki to support investment in rubber processing in the EEC and also in the planned Rubber City in Rayong.

Mr Hiroyuki thanked Thailand for hosting the Japanese investors and said the government had already amended rules and regulations to facilitate investment and had accelerated the removal of barriers to investment.

Gen Prayut has praised the Japanese for their hard-working, high discipline, honesty and ability to keep promises as well as the assistance to help on human resource development in Thailand, particularly on development of engineers and vocational students. Such human capital will become core supporters for future investments in Thailand.

The premier also askd Japan, which specialises in innovation and high level technology, to continue to support the transfer of knowledge to Thailand to ensure sustainable development. 

The two sides expressed their appreciation of 130 years of bilateral relation.
