Globe Tech Co, the maker of the digital navigation app Nostra, will commemorate the new year and the late King with a special map marking sacred places in Bangkok.
The free app can be downloaded at Apple's App Store and at Google Play. The temples included are:
- Wat Phra Kaew, which is considered the spiritual centre of Thais, and where Buddha Mahamani Rattana Patimakorn or the Emerald Buddha is enshrined.
- Wat Chanasongkhram, where Thais believe you can overcome all obstacles in life by visiting to pay homage to Phra Buddha Norasri, the main Buddha image, and paying respects to HRH Prince Maha Sura Singhanat.
- Wat Suthat Thepwararam Ratchaworamahawihan, the royal temple used to pay homage to Phra Sri Sakyamuni Buddha, a large Buddha enshrined in the Royal Pavilion at Wat Mahathat, Sukhothai. It was cast in the reign of King Dharmaraja Lithai, also known as the "Pious King". Thais believe paying homage to Phra Suthat will give them better vision and improve their reputations.
- Wat Sa Ket, also known as the Temple of the Golden Pagoda, where worshiping the relics of Lord Buddha is believed to increase a person's prosperity.
- Wat Rakhang Kositaram Wora- mahawihan, known as Temple of the Bells. Of this temple, King Rama V once said: "Going to any monastery is not like going to this one. Once you step through the door of the ubosot (prayer room), the main Buddha image is smiling to welcome you with a gentle and merciful face."
- Wat Arun Ratchaworamahawihan, also known as the Temple of Dawn. The massive prang or tower represents a symbol of the artistic glory of the Rattanakosin period. It is one of four royal temples in Bangkok. Carrying a lit candle around the prang in a clockwise direction for three days will give you "a glorious life every night".
- Wat Phra Chetupon Vimol Mong- kalaram, also known as Wat Pho. It is the royal temple of King Rama I, and the temple with the most pagodas in Thailand. It also houses the most beautiful reclining Buddha, which according to lore has the ability to make your life peaceful.
- Wat Bowonniwet Wiharn, which houses the Phra Buddha Chinnasri. Worshippers can pay homage to the ashes of late King Bhumibol under the base of Phra Buddha Chinnasri.
- Wat Ratchabophit Sathit Maha Simaram Ratchawaramahawihan, which houses Phra Buddha Angkinoros. Worshippers can also pay respects to the ashes of late King Bhumibol in this temple.
