Mono29, the digital TV channel operated by Mono Broadcasting Co, is expected to break even within two years after recording a successful performance over the past three years.

Having achieved a top-three ranking in the digital TV industry, Mono29 expects satisfactory revenue and net profit this year.

Mono Broadcasting Co plans to invest 900 million baht to enhance content on its Mono29 digital TV, increasing revenue by 2.5 billion baht this year.

Mono chief executive Navamin Prasopnet said the company expects its content enhancement partnership with new international studios such as 21st Century Fox, Lionsgate, Dreamworks and the US sports league NBA to drive viewership ratings to second among the 24 free TV channels in 2018.

Mr Navamin said movie content, which is Mono29's strength, includes exclusive films from existing partnerships.

He said Mono29's success the past three years came from using the right tools for TV programming while having very strong positioning for its movies channel.

"We feel we are very strong despite intense competition in the digital TV industry because of our outstanding positioning," he said.

Meanwhile, Mr Navamin said there will be no major investment this year, as the company already has lots of facilities such as film studios.

He believes Mono29 digital TV channel will rank second this year and will increase its advertising rate by 50% to generate more revenue and net profit.

Mr Navamin said the 2.5 billion baht in revenue projected for Mono29 this year is 10% growth from the same period last year.

He said the entire media industry will pick up this year because of the improving economy.

Movies and series will represent 70% of Mono29's total content this year; the rest will be news, sports and variety programmes.

Of the audience, 55% is male and 45% female, while 95% watch content on TV and 5% on the web.
