TrueVisions to unveil 4K for World Cup

TrueVisions expects to broadcast its 4K resolution content in June, starting with World Cup 2018, to secure its positing as a leading pay-TV operator.

Padee Pongpanich, senior manager of post-production for TrueVisions, said the company is developing its broadcast technology to air pay-TV content with 4K resolution.

Mr Padee said the 4K resolution broadcasts will begin with World Cup 2018, taking place in June and July this year. The Olympic Games 2020 will also be broadcast in 4K resolution.

The company is confident it can broadcast smoothly in 4K because TrueVisions is operated by True Corporation, which provides efficient fibre-optic networks and over-the-top services.

"We will try our best to bring 4K resolution to broadcast popular sports content to Thai audiences," he said. The resolution should strengthen the company's leading position in pay TV.

TrueVisions is also interested in providing the service via the satellite network of Thaicom.

"If we are granted the best deal for 4K satellite from Thaicom, it will be a great opportunity for us," Mr Padee said.

4K, also known as Ultra HD, has a sharper resolution than the normal standard as well as high-definition screens. Standard resolution has 480 lines, HD has 1080 lines, and Ultra HD has four times the amount of HD.

The National Broadcasting Telecommunications Commission said TV screens over 50 inches will display the most beautiful picture and a full range of content from providers.
