Tossaporn Sirisamphan has been officially appointed the new secretary-general of the National Economic and Social Development Board (NESDB) after the position was left vacant for more than two months.

The transfer of Mr Tossaporn from the position of secretary-general of the Office of the Public Sector Development Commission was announced in the Royal Gazette on Wednesday, after his name was endorsed by His Majesty the King.

The announcement took effect retroactive to last Friday.

Pakorn Nilpraphan, the Council of State deputy secretary-general, was moved to the position at the commission left by Mr Tossaporn.

The NESDB has run without a chief since mid-April, when then-secretary-general Porametee Vimolsiri became permanent secretary for social development and human security affairs in order to clear the top job at the agency for Somchai Sujjapongse.

But Mr Somchai refused to go and resigned from the civil servant service to protest the decision, saying the NESDB post was in a lower grade than permanent secretary for finance.

A Finance Ministry source said in April that one reason for Mr Somchai's transfer away from the ministry was that Deputy Prime Minister Somkid Jatusripitak had grown weary of Mr Somchai and criticised him repeatedly.
