The Digital Economy and Society (DE) Ministry plans to hold Digital Thailand Big Bang 2019 under the theme Asean Connectivity, reflecting a broad range of cooperation in the region, in line with Thailand chairing Asean next year.

The announcement came after a successful Digital Thailand Big Bang 2018 last week, that tallied 410,000 total participants, including those at regional Digital Thailand Big Bang exhibitions held in Khon Kaen, Chiang Mai, Songkhla and Rayong between July and August.

DE Minister Pichet Durongkaveroj said the theme of Asean connectivity next year aims to accelerate infrastructure links and build more of a regional digital workforce, harmonising digital laws and regulations.

Digital Thai– land Big Bang 2018 held during Sept 19-23 attracted some 355,000 visitors, more than 40 international exhibitors, and more than 700 media outlets.

"Digital Thailand Big Bang 2018 was not only a platform for Thailand to announce its potential as a digital technology leader in Asean, but also created learning opportunities to drive the economy and society with digital technology completely," he said.

Mr Pichet said innovation and creative ideas were generated throughout the exhibition last week. IDC Thailand named Khon Kaen and Phuket as the most outstanding smart city projects in Asia-Pacific, excluding Japan, for the 2018 IDC Smart City Asia Pacific Awards.

The recent establishment of an international cooperation network to launch the China-Thailand Digital Incubator between the Digital Economy Promotion Agency, Tus-Holdings and Tus Star, the largest business incubator network in China, showed progress was happening in the sector.
