State enterprises invested 310 billion baht in the first nine months of this year, up 45% year-on-year, and were the main force driving the economy, according to the State Enterprise Policy Office (Sepo).

"The continuous and rising investment from state enterprises allowed the national economy to grow steadily this year," Sepo director-general Prapas Kong-ied said on Monday.

The investment was mainly in large-scale projects such as a new power plant, power transmission lines and power transmission stations for electricity authorities, and the new Orange Line railway and extension of the Green Line in Bangkok by the Mass Rapid Transit Authority, he said.

He anticipated that state enterprises would disburse 90% of their allocated budgets this year.
