Representatives of 200 Japanese and Chinese companies will be in Thailand on April 2 to study five infrastructure projects in the flagship Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC), the EEC Office said on Friday.

Secretary-general Kanit Sangsubhan said they would attend a seminar and business matching meeting in Bangkok organised by the Japan External Trade Organization (Jetro) and the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT).

Japan and China would each send representatives from 100 companies. The Federation of Thai Industries would introduce them to about 100 Thai companies, he said.

"Japan and China have signed agreements to co-invest here and have chosen three EEC provinces - Chachoengsao, Chon Buri and Rayong," Mr Kanit said.

"They will also cooperate with the government in arranging for loans to realise the five planned megaprojects."

Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC) will be the financial supporter for the five EEC megaprojects -- a high-speed railway connecting three airports, Map Ta Phut port expansion, Laem Chabang port expansion, an aircraft maintenance centre, and U-Tapao airport expansion.

Together the five projects are worth an estimated 694.53 billion baht.
