NESDC approves B15.4bn outlay

The National Economic and Social Development Council (NESDC) has approved investment plans of the Provincial Waterworks Authority (PWA) and the Metropolitan Electricity Authority (MEA) worth a combined 15.4 billion baht.

Of the total, 11.75 billion baht belongs to the PWA and 3.65 billion to the MEA. The development projects will run from 2019 and 2020.

Thosaporn Sirisamphand, secretary-general of the NESDC, said the PWA will invest in five projects worth 2.1 billion baht in fiscal 2019 and complete the development in 2021.

The projects are located in Loei, Chai Nat, Sungai Kolok and Nakhon Nayok.

In 2020, the authority will start nine other projects worth 9.62 billion baht, with the developments complete in 2024 or 2025.

The projects will be implemented in Chon Buri, Chiang Mai, Yasothon, Prachin Buri and Trat.

Mr Thosaporn said the projects will increase the efficiency of tap water production and improve the water delivery system to consumers and the waterworks system management.

The project also supports the water supply in the Eastern Economic Corridor.

The PWA plans to supply 6.57 million cubic metres per day in fiscal 2019, up from 6.24 million cu m per day in the previous fiscal year.

The projects will help reduce waterworks loss to 34.2% in 2024 from 34.4% in 2018.

The MEA will install power lines underground in Bangkok and Nonthaburi with a combined length of 20.5 kilometres.

The project will be implemented from 2020 to 2023.
