Grande Centre Point expands for tourism

Mixed-use project planned for Pattaya

Grande Centre Point Group of Hotels plans to see an increase in revenue to 2.4 billion baht this year thanks to the buoyant tourism industry.

Expansion into the provincial market this year contributed to the revenue projection.

Grande Centre Point Group expects to open a new mixed-use project in Pattaya in the final quarter this year, its first foray into the provinces, said Suwanna Buddhaprasart, chief executive of LH Mall & Hotel Co, which owns the group.

Mrs Suwanna credited some of the success to free WiFi and drinking water.

She said the company earned about 2.2 billion baht in revenue in 2017, a 30% rise from a year earlier, while the average occupancy rate was near 85%.

The group expects growth is likely to continue this year in light of favourable trends in Thailand's tourism and hotel industries.

Mrs Suwanna said the company has set its sights on a revenue target of 2.4 billion baht this year with major customers from China, Japan, Hong Kong, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan, Malaysia, the United Arab Emirates and the US.

"Up to 90% of our customers are from Asia, with the rest from Europe and the Middle East. China is our key market," she said.

The group operates four hotels: Grande Centre Point Ratchadamri, Grande Centre Point Terminal 21, Grande Centre Point Ploenchit and Grande Centre Point Sukhumvit 55, which just opened late last year.

Part of Thailand's leading property firm Land and House Plc -- LH Mall & Hotel -- plans to open another hotel -- Grande Centre Point Pattaya -- in the fourth quarter this year.

The project will be the group's first hotel outside Bangkok and with its completion, it will have five properties with a total of 2,100 rooms.

Managing director Kitti Worrabanpott said the company is investing more than 6 billion baht for its mixed-use project in Pattaya, which will feature shopping mall Terminal 21 and 400-room Grande Centre Point Pattaya.

Mr Kitti said the company expects the new hotel to have an 85% occupancy rate within the first year of operations.

"In the future, the company plans to open at least one hotel per year, targeting major cities. In 2018, we should open a new hotel in Bangkok," he said.

Mrs Suwanna said tourism will continue to grow this year as the government has already launched a national tourism campaign called Visit Thailand Year 2018.

The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) said the country hopes to welcome 37 million international tourists this year, up from 35 million in 2017.

TAT not only promotes tourism internationally but also promotes domestic tourism, especially in 55 secondary provinces as part of its 15 major activities set for this year.

"All these will help strengthen overall tourism throughout this year," Mrs Suwanna said.

She said the hotel business is not new for the group as it celebrates its 10th anniversary, but it is essential for management to outline new strategies that focus more on service quality and customer experience.

"We carefully study the needs of customers and then design our services to meet them in order to create the best possible impression every time they stay with us," said Mrs Suwanna.

She attributed some of the first hotel's success to providing free WiFi in all guest areas and free drinking water offered in rooms. Free in-room snacks and beverages are also offered, which are replenished every day.
