Ministry mulls holiday cash

The Finance Ministry is mulling giving out cash to encourage people to take trips in order to stimulate domestic tourism, according to a ministry source.

The idea is to give a handout worth 1,500 baht to people who take a trip from now until September. The cash is aimed at promoting travel to second-tier provinces.

The source said the ministry initially wanted to limit the giveaway to 1,000 baht per person. However, Deputy Prime Minister Somkid Jatusripitak proposed the rate be raised to 1,500 baht.
