Sihanoukville airport needed to be upgraded: Hun Sen

Sihanoukville airport had to be upgraded so that it can welcome 3 million tourists a year, Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen said.

Speaking to about 20,000 garment workers in Kandal province’s Kandal Stung district on Wednesday, Hun Sen said that taxi road, departure and arrival terminals along with other facilities in Sihanoukville airport is needed to be upgraded, according to the Khmer Times.

Hun Sen said that this year, 6 million international tourists visited the kingdom which aimed to attract 12 million visitors in 2025.

He said that due to an increase of international visitors, Cambodia’s three international airports will not be able to accommodate all tourists by 2025.

Hun Sen said that new airports in Siem Reap province and Phnom Penh have to be built to accommodate 12 million visitors in 2025.

He said that Vinci Airports Co from France, which owned 70% of Cambodia’s three airports, also expressed strong support to build new airports in Phnom Penh and Siem Reap.
