Whether you plan to travel around Thailand soon or not, the annual Thai tourism festival in Lumphini Park in downtown Bangkok is always fun.

The official name of the event is Thailand Tourism Festival 2017. It kicked off on Wednesday and runs until Sunday.

The festivities will be open daily from 2-10pm. There is no admission fee.

TEN ZONES OF FUN ACTIVITIES

The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) is organising the five-day event.

Food and entertainment from the different regions of Thailand from Isan to northern Thailand to Bangkok to the South will be available to sample at low cost.

The festival is divided into 10 zones.

The Botanical Garden zone features a floral display that pays tribute to King Bhumibol along with an exhibition that travels through the development projects that he initiated during his reign.

VILLAGES FROM EACH OF THAILAND'S REGIONS

Another zone features five villages, one for each region of Thailand that reproduces each region's landmarks.

The Northern village has local hill tribes and produce from the Royal Projects.

The Northeastern Isan village has a replica of Phra That Phanom temple.

The Central Thailand village comes with famous markets, traditional houses and local food delicacies.

Chanthaburi's famous gemstones can be seen at the Eastern Seaboard village.

Discover a coastal town famous for seafood and curries and a local market at the Southern village.

FOOD, FOOD, FOOD & TRAVEL OPPORTUNITIES

Culinary delights from all five regions and the 50 areas of Bangkok will be on sale in the third zone.

A fourth zone will present travel information and updates on TAT's activities and tourism campaigns. A range of food trucks, Otop products and goods from the Royal Projects will be available there.

TAT also recommends fun tourist routes and travel packages in the fifth zone.

Night is a great time to go to the festival to catch the music and stage shows and all the colourful lighted displays.

OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES & FAMOUS SINGERS ON THE MAIN STAGE

The sixth zone will gather a variety of adventurous activities for outdoor enthusiasts such as rock climbing, paintball and net climbing.

Taking turns to perform on the main stage in the seventh zone will be leading acts such as Body Slam, Joey Boy, Keng Thachaya, The Palace and Friend, Anchalee Jongkadeekit, The Sound of Siam, Vie Trio and Paradise Bangkok Molam International Band.

Thai traditional dances and Chinese cultural performances will also be staged there.

As this festival coincides with the Chinese New Year, the eighth zone will feature the atmosphere of the celebrations and present a variety of themed activities.

The ninth zone will look more serious with a geological park featuring dinosaur exhibits and a visual tour to explore many discoveries made in Thailand.

The last zone provides selfies with TAT's mascot Nong Sukjai with decorative styles of the 77 provinces as backdrops.
