Searching for perfect photos for Google Street View, Thai tri-athlete hiked all over Thailand with huge 360-degree camera on his back.

Google Street View: Thai tri-athlete with 360-degree camera backpack

Cars can't travel everywhere.

Walkers or "trekkers" can get to places where cars can't get to.

So Google decided to use walkers to take photos for Google Street View (enter Thailand Street View here).

Google chose a Thai tri-athlete named Panupong Luangsa-ard as a so-called Street View Trekker.

Panupong walked all over Thailand with a 360-degree camera strapped on his back taking interesting photos, no ordinary backpacker.

The camera backpack projects 2 feet above the shoulders, weighs 18 kilogrammes and has a battery that lasts six to eight hours.

Over a period of two years Panupong covered 500,000 km and contributed 150 new images to Google Street View.

The view from Google Street View lets you experience places much more as a tourist would experience them (if he or she was there at the tourist destination).

For example, for a visitto  a tea plantation far in the north of Thailand below, just click on the view controls, the arrow sign and the plus and minus sign :

Or the rocky coast of an island in the south:

Sukhothai historical park with Buddha statue:

The so-called Sanctuary of Truth, north of Pattaya:

But the beach scenes certainly seem to be the most refreshing, such as the view from Hin Ta Hin Yai viewpoint on Koh Samui:

Or the view from Koh Nang Yuan island next to Koh Tao island:
