A "sulky" Wayne Rooney arrives at his Bangkok hotel, saying nothing to the media nor to the many fans gathering to welcome his Manchester United team.

Silent Rooney leaves for home

Bangkok football fans will not see Manchester United's Robin van Persie and Shinji Kagawa in action Saturday night and now superstar Wayne Rooney has joined the list of the missing.

He left Bangkok to fly back to England early Friday because of a hamstring injury suffered in training just after arriving in the city.

The Premier League champions say on the club's website that "it is anticipated that he will be unavailable for selection for a month."

Football fans are wondering, however, if he will ever appear in a Red Devil uniform again.

The injury comes amid silence from Rooney about whether he still wants to leave United. Before retiring as manager in May, Alex Ferguson said he'd been told by the England forward that he wanted to join a new club.

Yesterday, he did not look like a happy man, taking little or no notice of the huge welcome Bangkok fans gave to the arriving football players

He walked with his head down and did not talk to media as he arrived with his team-mates – a "sulky" arrival was the way one British writer put it.

Before Rooney's departure for home, however, new manager David Moyes reiterated that the England striker was not for sale and would not be leaving United.

"I have met Wayne two, three, four times. A lot has been said about myself and Wayne over the years but we have a really good relationship," said the Scot, who was manager of Everton when Rooney began his career at that club.

"He is training great. They are telling me it is the best shape they have seen him in for a long time... I am going to try and get the best Wayne Rooney I possibly can."
