Greek pianist Titos Gouvelis will be performing as soloist with the Royal Bangkok Symphony Orchestra for "Germanic Heroism -- Austrian Charm" at the Main Hall of the Thailand Cultural Centre, Ratchadaphisek Road, on Friday at 8pm.

Presented by the Royal Bangkok Symphony Orchestra Foundation, in collaboration with the Department of Cultural Promotion and the Tourism Authority of Thailand, the concert will feature the Athens-born maestro in a programme featuring Mozart's Piano Concerto No. 9 In E-flat Major, K271 (Jeunehomme).

His interpretation of the tuneful concerto will be balanced by Symphony No. 7 In A Major Op 92, one of Beethoven's mightiest pieces, which Richard Wagner described as "the apotheosis of the dance" because of the immense energy that it generates.

Similarly dramatic is Weber's groundbreaking overture to the opera Der Freischütz. Considered to be the first major German romantic opera, especially because of its strong sense of national identity and stark emotionality, it is one of the finest ways to open any concert.

Gouvelis has won many awards both in his native Greece and overseas, and has performed with many orchestras under the baton of eminent conductors worldwide.

His repertoire ranges from the Baroque era to the 21st century, including works by more than 60 Greek composers, many of which he has performed as world premieres.

He is currently professor at the Athens Conservatory, and regularly gives piano recitals and chamber music concerts in many major concert halls in Greece and abroad.

Conducting the show will be music director Michel Tilkin.

Tickets cost 400, 800, 1,200, 1,600 and 2,000 baht (50% discount for students and seniors aged 60 and over) and can be purchased from Thai Ticket Major outlets (visit thaiticketmajor.com or call 02-262-3456) and BSOF Office (call 02-255-6617/8).
