Babymetal ready to rock Bangkok

ARTS & ENTERTAINMENT

Meta superstars Babymetal from Japan will rock the Bangkok stage at GMM Live House, 8th floor of CentralWorld, on March 22.

Presented by Live Nation BEC-Tero, the "Babymetal Metal Galaxy World Tour In Bangkok" is the first opportunity for local audiences to experience a fusion of heavy metal and J-pop by the Japanese group hailed as the world's most exciting and groundbreaking dance-metal band.

Babymetal was formed as a subunit of the female idol group Sakura Gakuin in 2010 before it became an independent act three years later. They released their self-titled debut album in 2014 and it ranked at No.2 on the Billboard charts in Japan and made it onto the US charts as well. The band was the youngest female act to take the stage at Nippon Budokan before they embarked on their first world tour, performing in Paris and Cologne and on the main stage at UK's prodigious Sonisphere Festival 2014. They were also the opening act on Lady Gaga's "ArtRave: The Artpop Ball 2014 Tour".

In 2016, Babymetal released its second album, Metal Resistance, which debuted at No.39 on the Billboard 200, becoming the first album by a Japanese band to break into the chart's top 40 in more than 53 years. The same year also saw the band headlining at the prestigious Wembley Arena, becoming the first Japanese artists to ever perform at the venue. They also performed as special guests for American bands The Red Hot Chili Peppers, Metallica, Guns N' Roses and Korn.

Their latest album, Metal Galaxy, was released last October and debuted at No.2 on the Billboard Rock Album Charts, making them the first Asian act to do so.

Babymetal's original line-up is comprised of Su-metal, Moametal and Yuimetal, all of whom are musicians, singers and models. However, Yuimetal left the band in October 2018.

Tickets cost 1,800 and 2,800 baht, and can be purchased from Thai Ticket Major (visit thaiticketmajor.com or call 02-262-3838).
